The People behind LCDPFI

Leonard Cheshire Disability Philippines Foundation, Inc. (LCDPFI) was founded in September 27, 2010 by Lourdes Lopez Reyes. “Lulu”, as she is fondly called by people close to her, is known for her commitment and passion in helping people especially those with disabilities.  A music teacher by profession, Lulu proved to the world that she is capable of doing more than what is expected of her and was able to help change the lives of many people with disabilities (PWDs) by sending them to schools, helping care for them and even adopting a few.

At the heart of LCDPFI’s programs is a non-negotiable passion to serve people with disabilities. This is also what Mrs. Reyes, LCDPFI’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, would always encourage her people to possess as she did her entire life.

LCDPFI was established with support from Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD), a UK based charity supporting people with disabilities around the world. Taking its cue from the ratification the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in the Philippines and after decades of collaboration with organizations in the residential care services, LCD needed a partner in implementing their development programs driven by a rights-based approach to disability issues.  Imtiaz Mohammed, LCD’s senior program officer for Asia at that time paved the way for the birth of LCDPFI in the Philippines.

Our main objective is to promote and protect the rights and dignity of People with Disabilities as enshrined in the Philippine’s Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities and the UNCRPD. Aligned with LCD’s thrust, LCDPFI seeks to promote the rights of persons with disabilities and access equal opportunities to education, employment, social participation, and inclusion in the society.

LCDPFI is governed by a Board of Trustees and manned by a dedicated personnel in all of its three geographical areas of operation, namely the National Capital Region; Tagbilaran, Bohol in the Visayas and General Santos City in Mindanao.
